Barcelona

We are now on our second day in Barcelona (Or Bologna as mitch calls it). We arrived early yesterday and managed our way from the train station to the hostel. Our hostel is called Kubal and sits in a square full of restaurants and bars. It has a great atmosphere and 5 stories of bunk rooms.

The birthday boy!
We couldnt check in until later so we dropped our bags off and wondered the streets for three hours. We immediately fell in love with Barcelona, one to be away from the french and more familiar with the language, and two because its absolutely beautiful. A twist of Paris architecture and Miama vibes. Our favorite surprise was the Mercat Market (Yes we all loved the fact it was called Merc Cat). It is the most amazing market any of us have ever experienced. Pike Place cant even be called a market compared to this place. The fresh fruit was so colorful it seemed fake and the seafood was still moving (literally the crab and lobster were still moving their little legs). We al got fresh fruit since we have been deprived and living strictly on carbs. Afterwards we couldnt pass up sunglasses for 5 euro.

After checking in and showering we put on swimsuits and headed straight for the beach. Needless to say the boys were in foreign women heaven =). The walk is gorgeous along the marina and the beach stretches for miles with a giant Westin out on the point. There is also a gondola that moves across the marina right into town. The beach was packed and full of vendors. Beers were dranken fast and everyone had their swim in the Balearic Sea. After our much needed beach day we went to a nice dinner for JW's bday. Theres no denying that we have all had our pasta and pizza fixes.
Post dinner naps were a must have being that the night life here doesnt start until 1:30 in the morning. Later we played pool at the hostel, drank pitchers, and a few were lucky enough to get free pitchers for beer pong. Unfortunately I crashed early but the boys made it to club Opium at 1:45 am and lasted until 5. What happened there, only they could tell you.

Somehow Darrick, Drew, and Mitch got up and were drinking on the beach by 10:30, after their late night. Sam split off to check out some site seeing stuff and the rest of us got up at a slow pace and made our way down to the market for some more fresh fruit and yummy food. I was then determined to find a camera store since I dropped and mysteriously broke mine the day before. After I picked up my new pink camera we be-lined straight to the beach and better prepared then the day before. Darrick, Justin, and I all got 15 min massages for 5 euro and bronzed our beautifully white bodies for hours. Unfortuntely sometime while we were their Darrick had his phone stolen, most likely by a sneaky vendor. This lead to a mishap with some other foreigners who also had a phone stolen and and our vacation beach vibes flew right out the door.

We are now back at the hostel refueling for the night. Free dinner is served at 8:30 and stinky loads of laundry are going. Whatever awaits us in the next 24 hours we will get back to you on =)

(Unfortunately it takes WAY to long to upload pics so for now I can only get 1...Hopefully our next location will be better)

BARCA BARCA BARCA!

  1. This is awesome. I love that Leah ( the only girl in the group) writes the blog. Leah, your commentaries on the boys are great. So funny! Keep it up. The more details the better. You all stay safe, take care of each other and enjoy this experience that you will never forget. Love, Freddy (Sam's mom)
